Derrick is known as an inspiration to millions of people around the world; Derrick Coleman Jr. is a Super Bowl XLVIII Champion; He is also the First Deaf Offensive Player in the history of the National Football League; Derrick had the honor of playing the Fullback position and is known as a Special Teams Standout for the Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Derrick uses his charisma and celebrity to encourage individuals with similar challenges to pursue their dreams, despite obstacles that inevitably arise. Derrick exclaims, “They told me that I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t live my dream. But, I’ve been deaf since I was 3, so I didn’t listen!”Derrick is a “hero” or icon to millions of people around the world – he accomplished this through faith, hard work, dedication, and a refusal to listen to his critics.  

Derrick knows first hand the effects of living  with a hearing impairment. Derrick has had severe hearing loss since the age of 3. Without the assistance of hearing aids, he can only make out limited sounds. Derrick understands first hand the social and professional struggles related to being hearing impaired.

Equipped with a strong passion to encourage and advocate for others, Derrick started the Derrick L Coleman Jr. No Excuse Foundation, to empower the deaf and hard of hearing community. Derrick is a firm believer that being hearing impaired should never stop a person from achieving their dream.
